Ghana Picnic 2008

The picnic was scheduled to start at noon. It took us a while to find the gathering at Trout lake park. We eventually found the gathering.....7 people and it was 3 p.m. Playing loud music as usual. We thought we were late, but we were obviously early by Ghanaian standards. It eventually picked up in the next hour. I guess Ghanaians know how their countrymen operate...so most people got there from 4pm going. My buddies and myself were not feeling it at first but it became quite entertaining after a while....

Some lady brought a bag of fake hair and kente cloth to sell

When I say fake hair...I mean really fake and really fake-looking. My friend, had to take a closer look whilst trying to keep a straight face...This weave looked like it was made of plastic....like the manufacturers didn't even try to make it look like hair...What's the point of wearing a weave if it looked like a weave....I'm just saying.

I volunteered to play 'ampe'. Don't ask why...something to do I suppose. Problem was, nobody seemed to remember quite how the game was played.

There were more arguments than actual ampe playing.

Eventually the game begun.

The day of my surgery

Trying to lighten up before the surgery

Reality soon set in...when it was almost time.

The clinic, where I had the surgery

After the surgery...I was so out of it here. I remember feeling slightly mortified that I had to be wheeled out onto the street in my neighborhood. I know...I'm vain....but that lasted for a moment. I was so grateful to be alive.
