snowboarding at Mt. Seymour

On the way to Mount Seymour with De and Smeet

Smeet wipesout

I went snowboarding with colleagues from work a few days ago. It was so much fun.
Even though I'm still a novice and can't do jumps or mid air turns, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I ended up spraining a muscle in my right shoulder from falling off a tow rope , though. I was fine when it happened, but at night, the pain started and it was intense....i think the most intense pain I've ever felt. There was no relief...it felt like my arm was being constantly pulled out of it's socket. Finally at 4 am, after not being able to sleep a wink, I slowly made my way in tears to the emergency ward at St. Paul's hospital, 3 blocks from where I live. The good news was there were no broken bones...the bad news was the pain was going to be with me for a few days.

I took that day off work, but since I work at a facility that gives no paid sick days, I decided to go in to work the following day even though I was in excruciating pain. The double doses of pain killers helped me get through the day. I didn't wear the arm sling I was given because of vanity. Some people at work thought I was being a baby when I mentioned the pain. I decided not to elaborate on the injury if anyone else asked how I was doing.... Until towards the end of the day, when my boss cautioned me to ''keep away from snowboarding'...whatever that meant...."no, the injury wasn't from snowboarding", I tried to explain...."it was actually from when I was yanked off the tow rope....." his eyes immediately glazed over.....I got it...unnecessary explanation....he didn't care, he was only making conversation.

Being politically correct

A colleague came over to my desk today to invite me to partake in some food he had brought to work.
He looked a little embarrassed as he said: "Please don't take this the wrong way but would you like some fried chicken?"

I was baffled...why would I take it the wrong way?

I didn't get it at first. Then I understood...he didn't want to offend me because of this whole stereotype about African Americans and their love for fried chicken and watermelon. Except I wasn't African American. I thought it was hilarious. I personally think a lot of political correctness has been taken to a whole new level....and now people have to walk on eggshells around other people.
